ٱقْرَأْReadبِٱسْمِin (the) nameرَبِّكَ(of) your Lordٱلَّذِىthe One Whoخَلَقَcreated

Sahih International

Recite in the name of your Lord who created

96:2Juz 30 · Page 597

خَلَقَHe createdٱلْإِنسَـٰنَmanمِنْfromعَلَقٍa clinging substance

Sahih International

Created man from a clinging substance.

96:3Juz 30 · Page 597

ٱقْرَأْReadوَرَبُّكَand your Lordٱلْأَكْرَمُ(is) the Most Generous

Sahih International

Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous -

96:4Juz 30 · Page 597

ٱلَّذِىThe One Whoعَلَّمَtaughtبِٱلْقَلَمِby the pen

Sahih International

Who taught by the pen

96:5Juz 30 · Page 597

عَلَّمَTaughtٱلْإِنسَـٰنَmanمَاwhatلَمْnotيَعْلَمْhe knew

Sahih International

Taught man that which he knew not.

96:6Juz 30 · Page 597

كَلَّآNayإِنَّIndeedٱلْإِنسَـٰنَmanلَيَطْغَىٰٓsurely transgresses

Sahih International

No! [But] indeed, man transgresses

96:7Juz 30 · Page 597

أَنThatرَّءَاهُhe sees himselfٱسْتَغْنَىٰٓself-sufficient

Sahih International

Because he sees himself self-sufficient.

96:8Juz 30 · Page 597

إِنَّIndeedإِلَىٰtoرَبِّكَyour Lordٱلرُّجْعَىٰٓ(is) the return

Sahih International

Indeed, to your Lord is the return.

96:9Juz 30 · Page 597

أَرَءَيْتَHave you seenٱلَّذِىthe one whoيَنْهَىٰforbids

Sahih International

Have you seen the one who forbids

96:10Juz 30 · Page 597

عَبْدًاA slaveإِذَاwhenصَلَّىٰٓhe prays

Sahih International

A servant when he prays?

96:11Juz 30 · Page 597

أَرَءَيْتَHave you seenإِنifكَانَhe isعَلَىuponٱلْهُدَىٰٓ[the] guidance

Sahih International

Have you seen if he is upon guidance

96:12Juz 30 · Page 597

أَوْOrأَمَرَhe enjoinsبِٱلتَّقْوَىٰٓ[of the] righteousness

Sahih International

Or enjoins righteousness?

96:13Juz 30 · Page 598

أَرَءَيْتَHave you seenإِنifكَذَّبَhe deniesوَتَوَلَّىٰٓand turns away

Sahih International

Have you seen if he denies and turns away -

96:14Juz 30 · Page 598

أَلَمْDoes notيَعْلَمhe knowبِأَنَّthatٱللَّهَAllahيَرَىٰsees

Sahih International

Does he not know that Allāh sees?

96:15Juz 30 · Page 598

كَلَّاNayلَئِنIfلَّمْnotيَنتَهِhe desistsلَنَسْفَعًۢاsurely We will drag himبِٱلنَّاصِيَةِby the forelock

Sahih International

No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock1

نَاصِيَةٍۢA forelockكَـٰذِبَةٍlyingخَاطِئَةٍۢsinful

Sahih International

A lying, sinning forelock.

96:17Juz 30 · Page 598

فَلْيَدْعُThen let him callنَادِيَهُۥhis associates

Sahih International

Then let him call his associates;

96:18Juz 30 · Page 598

سَنَدْعُWe will callٱلزَّبَانِيَةَthe Angels of Hell

Sahih International

We will call the angels of Hell.1

96:19Juz 30 · Page 598

كَلَّاNayلَا(Do) notتُطِعْهُobey himوَٱسْجُدْBut prostrateوَٱقْتَرِب ۩and draw near (to Allah)

Sahih International

No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allāh].
