01 · Forgiveness

اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّيْ.

Allāhumma innaka ʿAffuwwun tuḥibb-ul-ʿafwa faʿfu ʿannī.

O Allah, You are the Ever-Pardoning, You love to pardon so pardon me.

- ʿĀ'isha (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhā) narrated: “I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, if I know when the Night of al-Qadr is, then what should I say in it?” He said: ‘Say: [the above].'” (Tirmidhī 3513)

02 · After Opening a Fast #1

ذَهَبَ الظَّمَأُ ، وَابْتَلَّتِ الْعُرُوْقُ ، وَثَبَتَ الْأَجْرُ إِنْ شَاءَ اللّٰهُ.

Dhahaba-ẓ-ẓama’, wa-b-tallati-l-ʿurūq, wa thabata-l-ajru in shā’a-llāh.

The thirst has gone, the veins have been moistened, and the reward has been secured, if Allah wills.

- ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUmar (raḍiy Allāhu ʿanhuma) said the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said [the above] when he opened his fast. (Abū Dāwūd 2357) The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The deeds of the people are presented (to Allah) on Mondays and Thursdays. So I like that my actions are presented whilst I am fasting.” (Tirmidhī 747) And he ﷺ said: “Fasting three days of each month is equivalent to fasting for a lifetime. The days of al-Bīḍ are: the thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth.” (Nasā’ī 2420)

03 · After Opening a Fast #2

اَللّٰهُمَّ لَكَ صُمْتُ وَعَلَىٰ رِزْقِكَ أَفْطَرْتُ.

Allāhumma laka ṣumtu wa ʿalā rizqiqa afṭart.

O Allah, for You I have fasted, and with Your provision I have broken my fast.

- When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ broke his fast he would say [the above]. (Abū Dāwūd 2358)
