01 · Duʿa for Forgiveness & Ease

رَبَّنَا لَا تُؤَاخِذْنَآ إِنْ نَّسِينَآ أَوْ أَخْطَأْنَا ، رَبَّنَا وَلَا تَحْمِلْ عَلَيْنَآ إِصْرًا كَمَا حَمَلْتَهُ عَلَى الَّذِيْنَ مِنْ قَبْلِنَا ، رَبَّنَا وَلَا تُحَمِّلْنَا مَا لَا طَاقَةَ لَنَا بِهِ ، وَاعْفُ عَنَّا وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَارْحَمْنَا ، أَنْتَ مَوْلَانَا فَانْصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكٰـفِرِيْنَ.

Rabbanā lā tu’ākidhnā in-nasīnā aw akhṭa’nā, Rabbanā wa lā taḥmil ʿalaynā iṣran kamā ḥamaltahū ʿala-l-ladhīna min qablinā, Rabbanā wa lā tuḥammilnā mā lā ṭāqata lanā bih, waʿfu ʿanna wa-ghfir lanā war-ḥamnā Anta Mawlānā fa-nṣurnā ʿala-l-qawmil-kafirīn.

Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred. Our Lord, and do not lay upon us a burden as You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and do not burden us with that which we have no ability to bear. Pardon us, forgive us and have mercy upon us. You are our Protector, so help us against the disbelieving people. (2:286)

02 · Duʿa For Firmness & Victory

رَبَّنَآ أَفْرِغْ عَلَيْنَا صَبْرًا وَّثَبِّتْ أَقْدَامَنَا وَانْصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكٰـفِرِيْنَ.

Rabbanā afrigh ʿalaynā ṣabra-w-wa thabbit aqdāmanā wa-nṣurnā ʿala-l-qawmil-kafirīn.

Our Lord, pour upon us patience, make our steps firm and grant us victory over the disbelieving people. (2:250)

03 · When Meeting the Enemy

اَللّٰهُمَّ مُنْزِلَ الْكِتَابِ ، ومُجْرِيَ السَّحَابِ ، وهَازِمَ الْأحْزَابِ ، اهْزِمْهُمْ وانْصُرْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ

Qur'an

عَنْ سَالِمٍ أَبِي النَّضْرِ مَوْلَى عُمَرَ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ وَكَانَ كَاتِبًا لَهُ قَالَ: كَتَبَ إِلَيْهِ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَبِي أَوْفَى رضي الله عنهما فَقَرَأْتُهُ: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِي بَعْضِ أَيَّامِهِ الَّتِي لَقِيَ فِيهَا انْتَظَرَ حَتَّى مَالَتِ الشَّمْسُ ثُمَّ قَامَ فِي النَّاسِ قَالَ: أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ لَا تَتَمَنَّوْا لِقَاءَ الْعَدُوِّ وَسَلُوا اللهَ الْعَافِيَةَ فَإِذَا لَقِيتُمُوهُمْ فَاصْبِرُوا وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ الْجَنَّةَ تَحْتَ ظِلَالِ السُّيُوفِ. ثُمَّ قَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ مُنْزِلَ الْكِتَابِ وَمُجْرِيَ السَّحَابِ وَهَازِمَ الْأَحْزَابِ اهْزِمْهُمْ وَانْصُرْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ. (صحيح البخاري ٢٩٦٥)

Allāhumma munzila-l-kitāb, wa mujriya-s-saḥāb, wa hāzima-l-aḥzāb, ihzimhum wa-n-ṣurnā ʿalayhim.

O Allah, Revealer of the Book, Mover of the clouds, Defeater of the tribes, defeat them and grant us victory over them.

- ʿAbdullāh b. Abī Awfā (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhu) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, on one of the days that he encountered the enemy, waited until the sun rose, then stood among the people and said: “O people, do not look forward to meeting the enemy, but ask Allah for well-being. When you encounter them, be steadfast. And know that Paradise is under the shade of swords.” Then he said [the above]. (Bukhārī 2965)

04 · Pray for the Oppressed

اَللّٰهُمَّ أَنْجِ الْمُسْتَضْعَفِيْنَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ

Qur'an

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رضي الله عنه قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم اللَّهُمَّ أَنْجِ عَيَّاشَ بْنَ أَبِي رَبِيعَةَ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْجِ سَلَمَةَ بْنَ هِشَامٍ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْجِ الْوَلِيدَ بْنَ الْوَلِيدِ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْجِ ‌الْمُسْتَضْعَفِينَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ اللَّهُمَّ اشْدُدْ وَطْأَتَكَ عَلَى مُضَرَ اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهَا سِنِينَ كَسِنِي يُوسُفَ. (صحيح البخاري ٣٣٨٦)

Allāhumma anji-l-mustaḍʿafīna mina-l-mu’minīn.

O Allah! Save the weak among the believers. (Bukhārī 3386)

- Abū Hurairah (raḍiy Allāhu ʿanhu) narrated: Allāh's Messenger ﷺ said, "O Allāh! Save `Aiyyāsh bin Abi Rabi`a (from the unjust treatment of the infidels). O Allāh! Save Salama bin Hishām. O Allaāh! Save Walīd Ibn Walīd. O Allāh! Save the weak among the believers O Allāh! Send your Punishment on (the tribe of) Mudar. O Allāh! Let them suffer from years (of drought) similar to that inflicted during the life-time of Yūsuf." (Bukhārī 3386)

05 · Duʿa for the Poor & Needy

اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ حُفَاةٌ فَاحْمِلْهُمْ ، اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ عُرَاةٌ فَاكْسُهُمْ ، اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ جِيَاعٌ فَأَشْبِعْهُمْ

Qur'an

عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم خَرَجَ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ فِي ثَلَاثِمِائَةٍ وَخَمْسَةَ عَشَرَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ ‌حُفَاةٌ فَاحْمِلْهُمُ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ عُرَاةٌ فَاكْسُهُمُ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ جِيَاعٌ فَأَشْبِعْهُمْ فَفَتَحَ اللهُ لَهُ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ، فَانْقَلَبُوا حِينَ انْقَلَبُوا، وَمَا مِنْهُمْ رَجُلٌ إِلَّا وَقَدْ رَجَعَ بِجَمَلٍ أَوْ جَمَلَيْنِ، وَاكْتَسَوْا وَشَبِعُوا. (سنن ابي داود ٢٧٤٧)

Allāhumma innahum ḥufātūn fa-ḥmilhum, Allāhumma innahum ʿurātun fa-ksuhum, Allāhumma innahūm jiyāʿūn fa-ʿashbiʿhum.

O Allah, they are on foot, provide a mount for them. O Allah, they are naked, clothe them. O Allah, they are hungry, provide food for them.

- ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAmr (raḍiy Allāhu ʿanhu) narrated: “The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ went out on the day of Badr along with three hundred and fifteen (men). The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: “O Allāh, they are on foot, provide mount for them; O Allah , they are naked, clothe them; O Allāh, they are hungry, provide food for them. Allāh then bestowed victory on them.” When they returned, there was no man among them, except he returned with one or two camels; they were clothed and ate to their fill.” (Abū Dawuūd 2747)

06 · Allah is Enough for Us

حَسْبُنَا اللّٰهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيْلُ

Qur'an

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ أُرَاهُ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي حَصِينٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الضُّحَى، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ : {حَسْبُنَا اللهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ} قَالَهَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ عليه السلام حِينَ أُلْقِيَ فِي النَّارِ، وَقَالَهَا مُحَمَّدٌ صلى الله عليه وسلم حِينَ قَالُوا: {إِنَّ النَّاسَ قَدْ جَمَعُوا لَكُمْ فَاخْشَوْهُمْ فَزَادَهُمْ إِيمَانًا وَقَالُوا حَسْبُنَا اللهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ. (صحيح البخاري ٤٥٦٣)

Ḥasbunallāhu wa niʿmal Wakīl.

Allah is enough for us and He is the Best Protector.

- Ibn ʿAbbās (radiy Allāhū ʿanhumā) narrated: “[The above] was said by Ibrāhīm (ʿalayhis-salām) when he was thrown into the fire; and it was said by Muḥammad ﷺ when (the hypocrites) said, ‘Your enemies have mobilised their forces against you, so fear them,’ — but this only increased them in faith and they replied: ‘Allah is enough for us and He is the Best Protector (3:173).’” (Bukhārī 4563)

07 · Seeking Refuge From the Enemy's Evil

اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنَّا نَجْعَلُكَ فِيْ نُحُوْرِهِمْ ، وَنَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنْ شُرُوْرِهِمْ

Qur'an

عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ : أَنَّ أَبَاهُ حَدَّثَهُ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم كَانَ إِذَا خَافَ قَوْمًا قَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَجْعَلُكَ فِي نُحُورِهِمْ، وَنَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شُرُورِهِمْ. (سنن ابي داود ١٥٣٧)

Allāhumma innā najʿaluka fī nuḥūrihim, wa naʿūdhu bika min shurūrihim.

O Allah, we make You our shield against them and we seek refuge in You from their evil.

- When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was apprehensive of [a group] of people, he would say: [the above]. (Abū Dāwūd 1537)

تَذْكِير

muslim companion
